<div>Prof. Wolfgang Karl H&auml;rdle received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in 1982, and is currently Professor of Statistics and Director of the Center for Applied Statistics and Economics (CASE) at Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany, where he has published, edited, or translated more than forty books and nearly one hundred papers in leading statistics and economics journals, including the <em>Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Journal of Econometrics</em>, and others. Professor H&auml;rdle has published more than 40 books, edited and translated monographs, and nearly 100 papers in leading statistics and economics journals, including the <em>Journal of the Royal Statistical Society</em>, the <em>Journal of Econometrics</em>, etc. Professor H&auml;rdle's main research interests are in the area of computational statistics, nonparametric and semiparametric methods, and partially linear modeling, as well as in the areas of insurance, risk measurement, and many other applications.</div>
