<div>Europe&rsquo;s innovation and venture capital ecosystem has evolved into a dynamic environment for scaling high-impact companies, including those driving the green and digital transitions. The first part of this presentation examines the development of the European venture capital and scale-up landscape, highlighting performance trends, regional strengths, and remaining structural challenges such as market fragmentation and limited exit opportunities. The second part focuses on the role of innovation and risk capital in addressing the climate emergency. It discusses how emerging climate-tech investors, new financing models, and technological breakthroughs are shaping Europe&rsquo;s path toward net zero. Together, these insights illustrate how a mature venture ecosystem can mobilise capital and innovation to achieve sustainable economic growth.</div>

<div><span style="text-align: justify;">Peter Coveliers is currently the Senior Representative for the European Investment Fund based in Amsterdam.</span></div> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph"><span lang="EN-GB">Previously he was the Head of Strategy and Business Development at the European Investment Fund. As such he was responsible for business development in various thematics including Greentech, Life science, Space and other tech sectors. His team had over EUR 15bn Assets under Management invested in Venture Capital and Private Funds with diverse sector strategies. <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph"><span lang="EN-GB">During his tenure his Team negotiated the EUR 400m EU- China Co investment Facility with the Silk Road Fund. He signed the transaction with the EU President and the then Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang in the Great Hall of the People the agreement in 2017. <o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph"><span lang="EN-GB">He was a member of the European Investment Bank Group Climate Roadmap steering group refocussing the Group on the Climate Agenda and setting clear organisational and strategic Climate Targets for the Group. He represented the Group in the EU Platform for Sustainable Finance.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph"><span lang="EN-GB">As Deputy Head of the European Investment Bank&rsquo;s Climate Change and Energy Division, he was responsible for innovative climate action funds and structured finance transactions. <o:p></o:p></span></p> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>&nbsp;</div>
